| Was just looking at X-Country's weekly album chart. In addition to the chart, they list the upcoming month's specialty programs. Nothing listed after 11/11, however. Makes you wonder if they are going to be axed in favor of Sirius' Outlaw Country. |

Or some hybrid channel. IIRC, X Country's program director was one of the 80 XMers axed in the Oct. 15 massacre. |

Well I know Jessie Scott was let go and she built this station.
It's over.
Outlaw Country is a pretty decent station, and Mojo Nixon is a lot of fun in the afternoons; but I wish miss X-Country sorely.
From Live shows at Willie Nelsons Farm Aid to the listeners selection every weekday at 12 noon, (replayed at midnight for those of us who are hooked on Ron & Fez), to Webb Wilder getting tanked in studio, to Armadillo Radio, to the many live studio shows featuring my favorite artists in the genre - I will miss them all very much.
Thank You to all the staff at X-Country for giving me the oppurtunity to listen to a radio station that got it all right all the time; your legacy lives on in many of our hearts. _________________

| All I know is that before I heard X-Country, I would have said I hated country music. We sure don't have anything that sounds like it here in Cleveland. I'm sorry to see it go. |

They should take Saturday Night Smokestack over to the new channel. _________________

I've loved this station, too. Very deep and eclectic playlist. Another X-C highlight for me: Texas Fred's Zydeco show. Made you want to break out a dish of rice, red beans, and sausage, and cover it in hot sauce. |

| Just found out that Matt the Cat from the 50's channel is done. Brutal. I've never heard any Sirius programming & I'm sure it's very professional & all, but this truly sucks. |

I think the best we can hope for is that Sirius loosens the playlist straitjacket it has on so many of its music channels once those channels are shared with XM. I'm sure the suits there -- especially Jon Zellner, who, after all, came from XM -- realize that the approach of the two services was different even though they covered largely identical genres. I'm just not sure how much tweaking, if any, will be done, especially since one person is going to be programming a half-dozen stations as the company tries to stay afloat by jettisoning as many people as possible.
I've also seen it mentioned in another thread that Sirius started out with much less storage capacity for music than XM did. So if that situation hasn't changed, they may not even be able to expand the playlists to XM depth if they wanted to. |

I saw that post; it said that Sirius started out with 3 terabytes, versus XM's 8.
Storage costs have plummeted since then. You can buy a 1 TB hard drive from NewEgg for $109.99. Obviously enterprise-grade storage is going to be more expensive, but it's still a non-issue for a company that runs equipment in outer space. |

So sorry to hear about X-Country.
Does anyone know if the Texas Fred Zydeco Show will continue on another channel? That's a truly great show that I hope they keep on the air. |

Right, but it's the music that costs alot. It's not free. |

Got this back from Jon Zellner, I'm not happy. Really seems like we are going to get commercial-free FM. XCountry was so unique and well programmed, I am seriously going to miss it. But at least we'll still be able to hear all the pop hits. I will give Jon credit, he does work some late hours, got a reply at 1am last night, at least thats what the email said.
Thanks, Ben. While X Country won't stay on the network, there will be a channel covering much of the Americana music heard on X Country including many of the specials and exclusive shows. Thanks for writing.
Best,
Jon

Hi,
I heard recently that many of the staff at XM were let go, and that Jessie Scott, the pd at X Country was one of them. I am very bummed to hear this, as this is one of the best programmed and unique channels on the service. I absolutely love Rogue Calls everyday at 11, the great music the channel played and turned me onto, the in studio performaces, and the live music fests that were broadcast over the years. I hope the channel stays, but it doesn't seem likely since Jessie was let go and Sirius really doesn't have a channel like it that I am aware of. Is this the last week XCountry, please tell me it stays?
Also I hope that the depth of the XM playlists stay, I signed up for XM because of that, and would hate to see that go.
Thanks, |
