Second-Generation Clip Antenna is here!
Over the past 6 months or so, I've had the privilege to help develop and test out the newest XM antenna technology. As you all know, the clip antenna that was included with the Delphi MyFi packaging was pretty much, well, worthless. This isn't personal opinion-- this is fact. Even Tao and Pioneer chose not to even bother putting the old clip antenna in their XM2go packaging, and I don't blame them.
XMFanStore's ClipXT Personal Antenna for XM2go Radios has arrived. This antenna has been totally redesigned on the inside, and some new parts on the outside too. Sure, it looks similar to the older clip antenna, but don't be fooled! The guts of the ClipXT antenna contain XM's newest antenna technology.
When I first received the prototype of this clip antenna earlier this spring, I was very doubtful. Based on the older clip antenna, I assumed a personal antenna could not be made. I was wrong.
The guts of the antenna have been totally redesigned. This antenna picks up a signal where the old one cannot. Based on my months of testing, not only does this ClipXT antenna pick up a near-flawless satellite signal, it also picks up terrestrial signal where even the internal antenna of the MyFi cannot! When I jog around using the ClipXT clipped to my shirt collar, I get ZERO dropouts. It's just amazing. The same jog with the older clip antenna, or even the internal antenna alone, I would experience several dropouts each minute.
Besides the internal guts being drastically improved, the outside of the antenna has been updated as well. I found the older clip antenna was very hard to clip to my shirt. The new clip attachment is very easy to use. The new one-sided clip is somewhat shaped like a bobby pin. Larger materials slide in underneath the clip, making it very easy to attach the clip to the waist or pocket on your jeans. Thinner materials, such as t-shirts, slides in between the clip. The clip also swivels 360 degrees, so you can basically clip it anywhere without much of a hassle.
The best part of the ClipXT Personal Antenna is the fact that it's just that-- an antenna. You are now able to pickup a near-perfect signal using a clip antenna. No need to use antenna headphone combinations. The "antenna headphones" combination currently on the market are small, uncomfortable, and don't sound very well. If you have a big head, you don't fit in them. If you prefer earbud-type headphones, you cannot use them. The ClipXT is perfect for users who have their own favorite pair of headphones they want to use with your XM2go-- whether it's your iPod headphones, very high-end earbud headphones, or you just like wearing the big 'ol ear muff headphones.
The ClipXT is now available for $19.98, so it costs less than the bulkier headphone antennas, and it's even cheaper than buying a replacement old-style Delphi clip antenna!
The ClipXT Personal Clip Antenna works with all XM2go radios: Delphi MyFi, Tao XM2go, and the Pioneer Airware.

I work in a 6-story building with windows and all facing south, but there are some areas of the building that don't have windows like elevators, and lobbies of other floors. Can the new antenna work in those areas? With the old antenna, I would have reception above the 3rd floor, but nothing on the 1st-3rd floor. _________________ XM RULES, TERRESTRIAL RADIO IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
