After the Holiday run last year I emailed Jon Zellner and told him about how I appreciated their holiday selections and mentioned I wish there had been a Country channel, because nearly every artist in the history of Country music has recorded either a Christmas album or single.
He wrote back saying they were really in a pickle with that category. He told me that had a lot of people disappointed there wasn't a Country Christmas channel, but in the past had a lot of complaints when Prime Country (the former US Country) was taken down.....and they were committed to the Opry broadcasts on The Roadhouse that it didn't make sense to put Christmas songs on there and then stop to air the Opry. Obviously, Zellner is gone now....but it appears they've been able to come up with a solution for this year.

As I recall, last year they were on 35-38 (Holiday neighborhood) and on the pre-empted channels also.

Right, but this year's release mentions nothing about a separate Holiday neighborhood. Last year also saw XM15 removed and replaced not with Christmas music but with a marble-mouthed audio loop saying it would be back in a month.

| Looks like a discrepancy between the press release and Sirius XM's holiday page but the website indicates Holly , Traditions and Pops running through December 31st.

I was really interested to see if they'd bring back some type of Country Christmas station. I'm really happy they did. Now my only concern will be DJs and playlists. SXM still grates from time to time when the jocks chat too much. And, to me, Holly badly needs to cut down on repeats. How many times can we hear Do They Know it's Christmas and that miserable song by Wham....
BTW- what is the over/under on the number of times that Holly will play Jim Brickman spots each day?? I'll start the bidding at about a zillion....

and can we please ditch the DJs on XM? |

With Holiday Traditions apparently pre-empting the '40s on 4, I wonder if there's any chance that they'll add some of the actual '40s Christmas songs to their playlist? That's always been a big, glaring hole in that channel's format.
'40s on 4 itself, of course, has always aired a wonderful 36-hour marathon of holiday tunes on 12/24-12/25 each year. I'm very sorry to see that tradition fall by the wayside.

But we do get The Village's wonderful folk Christmas library back, at least for Christmas Eve and Day, providing there's no surprise hiatus in store.

Two questions...
1. I wonder if Holiday Traditions will actually be in MONO over the XM satellites like 40s on 4 is...
And...
2. Is 40s on 4 monaural on the Sirius platform?
Mono doesn't fare that well with Christmas music - traditional or not...

It's no surprise Holly is coming back, and it probably will be the same FM station as years past. It's nice to see Holiday Traditions coming to Sirius. But what do they mean Pops won't air until December 7? What a shocker.
Don't forget the time when the majority of the stations go all-Christmas two days before Christmas, let alone Escape.
40's and Escape are being pre-empted? NOOOOOOO!
At least Escape will return on the 20th, right? You'd better hope so; Marlin better not be out of the job for the Holidays! Keep Marlin!!
